For the topping
  1. Melt the butter in a pan and add the bread crumbs
For the macaroni
  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C
  2. In a large pot, cook the pasta in salted water
  3. In a separate pan, melt the butter and whisk in the flour and mustard
  4. Slowly add the milk and keep whisking
  5. Add onion, bayleaf and paprika
  6. Cook on low heat for 10 minutes
  7. Add the beaten egg
  8. Stir in 3/4 of the cheese and season with salt and pepper
  9. Remove from heat and pour the macaroni into a casserole
  10. Top it with the remaining cheese
  11. Add the bread crumb mixture on top
  12. Bake for 30 minutes
  13. Remove from the oven and serve
